Chip Smith, Partner
Smith is no stranger to the task of refurbishing and renovating golf courses, with over twenty-five years of experience in the business. His company, Atlantic Golf Management, has successfully turned around the struggling operations on hundreds of courses across the United States and brought them back to life. One of the more notable courses that Smith brought back to life is the Tournament Players Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Purchased in 2006, within a couple of years, the course became one of the very few five-star courses in the country.
Doug Marty, Partner
A devoted golfer, Doug Marty has been a South Florida resident for over 15 years. Doug’s background is in business and manufacturing, and he is the owner and president of Air Guide Manufacturing, a Florida-based company. As a resident of Wellington, Doug has seen the growing need for an exclusive and quality golf country club, and he is proud to partner with Chip and Atlantic Golf Management. Doug played an instrumental part in the early stages developing the Wanderers Golf Club and was a Founding Member.
Anthony Apple, Agronomist & Partner
Apple has more than 34 years of experience in the golf industry with an exceptional background in golf course project, program and operations management. After receiving his degree from North Carolina State University in 1982, Apple’s career began at Greensboro Country Club in Greensboro, NC. He currently serves as Director of Golf Operations for The Witch Golf Links, The Wizard Golf Links and The Man O’War Golf Links in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Julie Pickens, Membership Director
Pickens joins Wellington National as the new Membership Director, and brings her talent and years of business experience with her. Pickens has spent much of her career working entities such as the International Polo Club, Breakers Palm Beach and Morton's Steak House, where she ran food and beverage operations, as well as membership. Her goal as the new Membership Director is to carry over the skills she gained at her previous prestigious locations to really interact and connect with club members.
Pickens is a mother of two, with her 21- year-old daughter at Georgia Southern University and her 19-year-old son at Palm Beach State College. Pickens' husband is also involved in the hospitality business, and her family values often carry over into her daily work life.
JOHN-PAUL BEGLEY, Director of Golf
John-Paul “JP” Begley joins Wellington National as a golf professional and a veteran of the golf industry for the last 27 years. Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, Begley is not only an experienced player and instructor but is also a certified club fitting and repair specialist. The Wellington resident enjoys spending time with his wife and three children when not on the course. Driven to provide the best customer experience possible, Begley is always ready to help members have the best experience possible while on the course at Wellington National Golf Club.
RYAN VIDAL, Assistant PROFESSIONAL
Ryan Vidal, a Florida native, joins Wellington National as a golf professional. A long time Wellington resident, Vidal grew up playing on the championship course and even had it as the home course for his Wellington High School Golf Team in 2000. Vidal, who now has thirteen years of experience in the Palm Beach County golf industry at courses including The Links of Madison Green and Binks Forest Golf Club, is looking forward to teaching individual and group lessons to members of all ages on a course that is near and dear to his heart.
Jordan Naftal, Director of Food and Beverage
Jordan Naftal brings his decades of experience in hospitality to his position as Director of Food and Beverage at Wellington National. Originally from New York, Jordan and his family have been Wellington residents since 2013. As a hospitality executive, Jordan is passionate about providing outstanding service and exciting menu options for his guests. During his career, Jordan has made a name for himself by working with powerhouse companies that include Disney Regional Entertainment, Hard Rock Cafe and Lettuce Entertain You, as well as his own successful restaurants, Jordan’s Steakhouse and Jordan’s Steak Bistro. Jordan is looking forward to providing the members of Wellington National the outstanding food, innovative cocktails, and great wines from around the world.
David Guilford, Executive Chef
David Guilford leads the Wellington National Golf Club culinary team as the Executive Chef. He brings with him his talent in the kitchen and years of experience working as an executive chef for many other well-regarded restaurants. Beginning his professional career in 2005, Guilford worked for Wayne Huizenga at the Grande Oaks Golf Club in Davie, Florida. He then worked at the Atlanta National Golf as the Regional Chef with White Columns and Polo for seven years, before studying Café Bon Appetit in college. Prior to coming to Wellington National Golf Club, David worked as the Executive Chef of Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Florida, and at Sequoia Golf in Atlanta, Georgia. David looking forward to being back in South Florida, as the area has easy access to a wealth of fresh seafood and produce year round. He will be using his expertise to create delicious meals with the freshest ingredients South Florida has to offer.
